Role Outline:
This exciting role involves providing clear and visible professional advice to employees of our clients, as well as managing and offering professional leadership to Occupational Health Nurse Advisors and the wider multidisciplinary team within the Occupational Health department. The post-holder will support the Occupational Health Manager in leading and advancing clinical practice in accordance with Department of Health guidelines and relevant legislation. Additionally, the role encompasses delivering a full Occupational Health remit in line with the client contract, which includes providing consultations, advice, education, medical assessments, and conducting drug and alcohol testing where appropriate.
What you'll be doing:
- To assess new clients presenting to Occupational Health whether in person or by written referral and initiate management of case
- To assess clients fitness to work for the appropriate job role in line with DHC policies and guidelines and issue appropriate fitness certificates.
- To write letters to GP/Specialists in line with the Access to Medical reports Act and Data Protection Act
- To support the OH manager to advise, monitor and assess the clinical practice of the OH team.
- To respond to client/manager's requests for support/information on the working environment.
- To maintain appropriate records in line with departmental protocols on record keeping.
- To provide health surveillance in accordance with current legislation.
- To empower Occupational Health Nurse advisors to undertake a wider range of clinical activities by ensuring appropriate training, updating and monitoring of relevant training programmes.
- To take a senior role in the development and provision of a high profile and pro-active Occupational Health Service.
- To maintain valid and up to date registration with the NMC and comply with NMC guidelines in relation to professional issues and clinical supervision.
- To maintain working knowledge of DHC policies and procedures and adopt these accordingly.
- Promote equality of opportunity and provide an environment in which the dignity of individuals is respected and free from workplace harassment and bullying.
- Assist in the design and implementation of Health Promotion initiatives in partnership with the wider OH team
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a highly skilled and qualified professional who is registered with the NMC (Part 1) and holds a postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health. The ideal candidate will have an up-to-date knowledge base of professional and specialist issues, along with proven experience working in occupational health. A clear understanding of professional accountability within the scope of practice is essential, as is evidence of managerial experience. The role requires excellent negotiation and motivational skills, the ability to accept and deliver constructive feedback, and a self-motivated, proactive approach to work. We seek someone who is innovative, adaptable, and demonstrates strong leadership and management capabilities. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively both independently and within a team, be IT literate, and maintain strict confidentiality. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, are a must, alongside the ability to prioritise workload, manage time effectively, and work flexibly to meet strict deadlines. An approachable demeanour and the ability to use initiative are key attributes for this role.
Hours:
This is a full time role working Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 6pm.

This is an onsite role based in Warton, Preston.
