School Nurse / Paramedic

School Nurse / Paramedic

Salary is equivalent to RGN Band 6–7, pro rata

Term time only (33 weeks during term time and three weeks worked during the holidays)

An average of 40 hours per week, 8.5 and 12.5 hour shifts spread over seven days per week

The Role: You will be expected to clinically assess, treat and deliver care whilst focusing on improving the pupil’s health literacy. This will include creating individual cares plans for pupils with long-term conditions, teaching pupils about health prevention and screening, and supporting the formation and delivery of clinics and policies. You will plan and manage your own clinics for the clinical areas you take a lead on. The School Nurse/Paramedic would also ideally be confident with musculoskeletal assessment as all clinicians get the opportunity to provide pitch side medical cover. Our friendly team covers 24 hours a day, seven days a week during term time.

The Skills: You will be band 6 NME registered, with a dual RN/child branch qualification and evidence of continuing education. This role would suit a candidate who is confident in working autonomously and who enjoys working with adolescents. Ideally, you will have experience working in schools, A&E or sports injuries or may have held a position as a practice nurse.

The Benefits: Benefits include free lunches for full time staff, automatic enrolment in the School’s pension scheme, use of the School’s sports facilities such as the swimming pool and gym, and subsidised membership of the tennis, golf, angling and social clubs. For a full list of role-specific benefits please refer to the job description.

The Environment: Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Approximately 840 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding houses. The Medical Centre team provides a full-time comprehensive healthcare service for the pupils and employees of the School. The level of involvement for the latter is largely on an emergency basis. In addition to the Lead Nurse, the medical staff comprises five nurses, one school doctor and one sports doctor. The Medical Centre is open 24/7 with one nurse/paramedic being on duty overnight.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are values that are important to us at Harrow. We believe in diversity of thought and actively welcome everyone regardless of their background to bring their valuable and relevant skills to our community.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with any past employer and the Disclosure and Barring Service, and it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete and this process takes, on average, a month. Please plan accordingly.
