Be a Greater Manchester Nurse

In Greater Manchester, we encourage our health professionals to think big. Why build your career in just one healthcare organisation when you can build it across a whole amazing region that 2.8 million people call home?

About Greater Manchester Nurses

All of Greater Manchester’s health and social care organisations – from the NHS to emergency services and the voluntary sector – work together under the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership. This was formed in 2016 following devolution, when we took control of our own health and social care £6bn budget. Our ten boroughs now work together to transform our public services and tackle the biggest issues affecting our health.

Opportunities in Greater Manchester

This joined-up approach is helping to make Greater Manchester a better place to live and work. For nurses, that means a choice of roles and career paths as diverse as the area itself.

You can work in hospital wards, outpatient units or specialist departments, or get out into the community, working in homes, GP practices or nursing homes. You could focus on adults, children, mental health or people with learning disabilities. There are also many opportunities in education, research, informatics, the ambulance service, prison service and police – and we also have links with the voluntary and private sectors.

You’ll also find a wealth of training and career opportunities – not just for this job, but the next one, and the one after that – right on your doorstep. So you can grow your skills in a particular area, or move sideways to take on a new role. You can also apply your skills with a different provider.

Living and working in Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester is a great place to call home. The largest economy outside London, it’s a vibrant and multi-cultural community, marked by a powerful sense of unity. It’s also an area of contrasts – from the liveliness of the city centre, and the pride and energy of the many nearby towns, to the tranquillity of the surrounding Pennines.

There are great schools, fantastic transport networks, and properties to suit all pockets. You’ll find a cutting-edge arts scene, world-class shopping and eating, internationally recognised sports teams and diverse sporting facilities from outdoor rock climbing to indoor ski slopes.

This isn’t just nursing, this is nursing in the buzzing, connected, proud community that is Greater Manchester.  Come join us.
