Location: HMP Isle of Wight, Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5RS
Salary: £20 - £42.04 per hour
Hours: 08:00 - 16:00 or 09:00 - 17:00
Length of role: Minimum of 12 weeks with possible extension. Immediate start available.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Prison Cleared RMN to join HMP Isle of Wight. HMP Isle of Wight is a Cat B prison for adult males, with a population of over 1000 across two sites.
About the Role
You will work as as part of a team delivering care to patients both within the Healthcare Centres and on the Wings / House blocks within the prison environment, managing day-to-day health complaints and long-term conditions. You will have the ability to work effectively as part of a multi professional team within a fast-paced environment.
About You
Ideally, you will be a Prison Cleared RMN and have:
- Experience of working on your own initiative and without supervision
- Strong communication, clinical assessment, and decision-making skills
- A flexible attitude and able to work to tight and changing timescales
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- A compassionate, non-judgemental approach to care.
- Excellent attention to detail and timekeeping
Essential Criteria
- Registered Mental Health Nurse, with current NMC registration.
- Minimum of 6 months qualified experience
- Previous experience in a similar healthcare or secure setting is highly desirable.
- Prison clearance is essential
Key Responsibilities
Provision of mental health interventions to Service Users within the prison establishment across wellbeing, primary and secondary mental health.
- This will involve being responsible for managing their own caseload, including assessments, care planning, delivering interventions and reviewing care of patients located within the prison with a mental illness, within the framework of the multi-disciplinary team and Care Programme Approach.
- To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced based interventions required including health promotion within a prison environment.
- To provide a nursing service to prisoners taking account of cultural and spiritual beliefs/needs.
- To be responsible for the appropriate risk assessment of service users, providing effective advice, guidance and decision making process.
- Responsible for coordinating the care and assessment under the care coordination approach.
- To ensure a high standard of nursing in the application of clinical nursing procedures and treatment including the custody storage and administration of drugs.
