Permanent and Full time 37.5 hours per week.

This is a great opportunity to lead the infection prevention and control service supporting our dynamic team with their compassionate care and excellent clinical outcomes, at the Portland Hospital.

Delivering the HCA One IPC strategy, the post holder will have opportunity to extend their influence as an active participant of the IPC team, delivering a seamless service to the HCA portfolio of health care provider services, supported by the national Head of IPC.

The postholder will support and empower staff at The Portland Hospital to comply with infection prevention and control standards, guidance and policies in order to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infection. They will provide advice and education across the clinical workforce, support key services enabling the IPC agenda such as housekeeping, decontamination and waste management, develop key relationships to promote IPC assessment and compliance relating to the built environment and promote appropriate antimicrobial stewardship through effective collaboration with pharmacists, microbiologists, governance, risk and the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will participate in the National Mandatory Surveillance Programme for HCAI; including proactive surveillance of outcomes, coordination of infection control incident reviews and sharing of learning and information as appropriate. The IPC Lead will assist in developing the infection prevention and control link nursing programme within the organisation and will provide supervision to IPC Links in wards and departments.

An established leader and change agent, the post holder will be expected to demonstrate Tier 3 level knowledge and skills and evidence high level competencies aligned to those detailed by the Infection Prevention Society.

Skills & Experience 
Registered Nurse / Registered Children’s Nurse / Midwife

First Degree or equivalent experience

Specialist qualification in infection prevention and control or equivalent experience

Evidence of continued professional development

Experience:
Five years post registration working in a Nursing / midwifery role or as an allied health professional (AHP)

Minimum two years’ experience in working within an Infection Prevention and Control team, either directly or via the link nurse process (with credentialled experience if AHP)

Demonstrable experience of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework relevant to HCAI outcomes
