About the role

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced health professional for the permanent post of College Nurse at Newnham College.

The College Nurse is a key member of the College Health and Wellbeing Team alongside the Wellbeing Advisor under the leadership of the Senior Tutor. The Nurse provides health support to students, liaises with GP services and assists with access to other services in the University and in the NHS.  The postholder shares medically-informed advice with the Team to ensure appropriate support is available for students, prioritises student’s needs and contributes actively and collaboratively with the Team where necessary to ensure the health and wellbeing of the College community.  

The annual salary for this post is paid at point 51 on the University’s single salary spine, currently £48,350 per annum. Offered on the basis of school term-time only, (minus the 3 half term holidays) the hours will average 25 per week during the 42 working weeks per year. The successful incumbent should be able to work some hours on each day of the week, Monday – Friday and prepared to work more hours per week during College term time and fewer hours outside College term-time as required. The College offers other benefits, including 33 days a year holiday, (inclusive of bank holidays), pro rata, free lunches and parking (where available) when working, use of the College gym and the post is pensionable under the College’s attractive contributory pension scheme with a current employer contribution rate of 21.6%. 

About you

You will be a Registered General Nurse (RCN) with significant and demonstrable experience of post-registration practice.  You will have experience of working independently as well as part of a team of wellbeing practitioners and external health providers, have advised and assisted people with a range of physical and psychological issues and have and understanding of the challenges faced by students in the higher education sector.
