The successful candidate will lead and co-ordinate the development and delivery of the children’s nursing service in MUH.

They will work closely with colleagues in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Out Patients Department and Operating Theatres to ensure delivery of a high standard of nursing care to children.

We are looking for someone who;

  • Is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland as a Registered Children's Nurse and has a track-record of leading quality nursing services for children.
  • Has at least seven years' post registration experience in a nursing leadership role and
  • Has successfully completed a relevant post graduate education award certified by the education provider, which verifies that the applicant has achieved a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 8 or higher award maintained by Quality & Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) or can provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 8 or higher standard in a health care or management related area.

We are looking for:

  • An experienced registered children's nurse (registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) with experience as a manger (CNM2/3-  NHS AfC Band 7/8) who is ready to bring their experience to Mayo and be part of our exciting plans for Children's nursing in Mayo University Hospital.

Mayo University Hospital provides a range of acute services with Emergency Department, ICU, CCU, General surgery, Orthopaedics, Medicine, Cancer, Renal, Maternity, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Children’s and a busy Outpatient service.

The Children’s Ward has 28 beds/cots and provides both a scheduled and unscheduled care service to children up to the age of 16 years. With plans in progress to build a new Children’s Emergency Department, unscheduled care will relocate to this area on completion of work.

It is a mixed specialty unit providing care for children with general medical conditions, shared care oncology/haematology, cystic fibrosis, and diabetes. Surgical/Orthopaedic services are provided for minor day cases and acute Orthopaedic/Surgical emergencies are under the care of the department of Surgery/Orthopaedics.

We also provide a comprehensive Children’s Outpatient service within the main OPD department.
