HCA Healthcare UK Paediatric Intensive Care services provide acute, complex care to all patients and are internationally renowned for clinical excellence. In our units, you can expect to have the time to provide a quality holistic patient experience and will be supported to be the best that you can be with access to a preceptorship and mentorship programme and funding for the PICU qualification.
Our Paediatric Intensive Care services are covered across 2 of the most prestigious and respected private hospitals in London; The Portland Hospital for Women & Children and The Harley Street Children’s Hospital. Both hospitals care for level 2 and level 3 ventilated patients in Cardiac, Neuro-rehab and Oncology; and we also provide pioneering treatment that is not available elsewhere in the UK.
The Portland Hospital for Women & Children is the UK's largest private children's hospital with over 46 paediatric beds including our 10-bed intensive care unit; which is equipped with the latest technology to provide advanced respiratory and organ support.
Recently rated “Outstanding” by the CQC, The Harley Street Childrens Hospital specialises in complex, cancer, cardiac and neuroscience, care for children and the 9 bedded Paediatric Intensive Care Unit provides expertise and technology of the highest standard.
As a member of our Bank PICU Nurses, you will be allocated shifts in either The Portland Hospital or The Harley Street Clinic depending on where there is a need for additional support. Your key role will be to plan and deliver a first class service to our patients. We make sure that the nurse to patient ratio is low and in the case of PICU it is usually one to one, which gives you the time to dedicate to the patients you are looking after.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, implement and evaluate care to meet the needs of the patient and their families/carers
- Maintain high standards within the patient environment
- Fully document all aspects of patient care in a timely manner
Skills & Experience
- NMC registered, preferably as an RCN or RSCN
- Relevant qualifications or experience on a paediatric ward
- Experience of having worked with acute and chronically sick children
- Understanding of Child Protection
- Competent in the administration of IV drugs and management of central venous access, mechanical ventilation, tracheostomies, inotropic support, arterial lines and chest drains
