Operating Theatre Manager

Operating Theatre Manager
London, The Harley Street Clinic
Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week
Monday to Friday
Permanent
£Competitive, with an excellent benefits package

We’re looking for an Operating Theatre Manager to join our team at The Harley Street Clinic. This is a senior theatre leadership role within a highly specialised perioperative service delivering some of the most complex and clinically challenging surgical cases in the independent sector.

You’ll be trusted to lead experienced teams supporting high‑risk procedures, working closely with senior Consultants in an environment where judgement, authority and leadership presence directly influence patient safety and outcomes.

As a Theatre Manager within surgical services, you’ll take responsibility for the day‑to‑day performance of operating theatres, scrub, anaesthetics and recovery, where complexity and acuity are part of everyday practice rather than the exception. Working closely with the Surgical Services Manager, you’ll lead the department operationally while contributing to its longer‑term development, holding standards, navigating challenge and supporting colleagues through pressure, change and competing clinical priorities.

This is a role for a confident, resilient leader who is comfortable making decisions, addressing issues early and providing steady leadership in a demanding perioperative environment.

About The Harley Street Clinic Theatres

The operating theatres at The Harley Street Clinic support some of the most complex surgical services within HCA UK. The department delivers perioperative care across a wide range of specialities including cancer services, cardiac surgery, gynaecology, head and neck, thoracic, ENT, maxillofacial, general surgery and plastic surgery. Theatre teams work at a consistently high level, supporting intricate procedures that require strong coordination, advanced clinical expertise and clear theatre leadership.

At HCA UK we care about what you care about. We care that you want to deliver the very best care. We care that you want a career you can be proud of. We care that you want working conditions that support your health and wellbeing. Let us care for you and your career, the same way you do for others.

What you’ll do:
Provide strong clinical and operational leadership across operating theatres, ensuring safe, effective and high‑quality perioperative services
Lead, supervise and mentor multidisciplinary theatre teams across scrub, anaesthetics and recovery, supporting development, performance and succession
Oversee theatre utilisation, workforce planning and list management, maintaining operational grip within a highly complex surgical environment
Hold responsibility for departmental budgets, clinical governance, risk management, audit activity and CQC compliance
Lead service development and change management, working with Consultants and senior colleagues to introduce new techniques and technology

What you’ll bring:

A recognised professional qualification with current NMC or HCPC registration
Proven experience in a theatre leadership role within operating theatres or a complex perioperative setting
Strong understanding of patient safety, quality, clinical governance and regulatory compliance
The confidence and resilience to lead experienced teams, influence senior clinical stakeholders and address challenge constructively
Excellent organisational and change management skills, with the ability to remain calm, decisive and visible in a high‑pressure environment
