We are seeking to recruit an Executive Director of Nursing & Midwifery who can demonstrate strong strategic and clinical leadership, has a proven track record of operational excellence and has a passion for taking forward change.
We are looking to recruit an exceptional individual who has experience of operating at Board level, with a proven track record of successfully delivering a professional and operational portfolio. The successful candidate will display natural leadership, drive and determination and will shape the successful development and design of sustainable quality services within a rural health care setting. The successful candidate will display outstanding communication, negotiating and influencing skills that will support and encourage clinical and non-clinical staff to develop truly rural solutions for the significant challenges ahead for both health and social care. As well as having responsibility for the professional leadership of Nursing & Midwifery, the role also provides the opportunity to influence national policy and strategy.

Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB) encompasses the whole of the County of Powys which covers around 25% of the land mass of Wales with only 5% of the population. In a rural county, as a health board, we provide as many services as safely as possible locally; through GPs and other primary care professionals, a network of community hospitals and community services, including midwifery-led services, mental health, learning disabilities, children’s services, adult rehabilitation and frailty services. Alongside this we have a significant commissioning role working with providers in both Wales and England.

About the role:
The Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery is a key statutory post with responsibility for high-level clinical leadership, management, direction and, professional advice to the Board compliance with legislation. The post-holder ensures the highest possible quality and range of healthcare provision within available resources, sustaining a patient/public centred approach through all services and staff (for directly provided and multi-faceted commissioned services). The post-holder is the professional accountable officer and is the lead for professional standards for nurses and midwives. The post holder is an Executive Director and a voting Board Member, who is expected to contribute to all aspects of the work of the Health Board, accepting shared accountability for the achievement of the Health Boards strategic and operational objectives, whilst setting and exemplifying values, behaviours and standards.
