About Leonard Cheshire
Last year we supported over 14,000 disabled people through our social care and community programmes in the UK. This included 2,700 disabled people in our care, with some requiring intensive nursing support. As part of our team of 5,000 staff and 9,000 volunteers, you would help us do everything humanly possible to empower those we support to live their lives as freely and as fully as they choose.
We are the largest nursing care provider for disabled people in England. The CQC has assessed us as the highest quality provider in our sector. In the UK, 90% of our care services are rated as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by the regulators.
About the Role
As a subject matter expert, and in collaboration with our Head of Clinical Excellence, you will provide up to date advice and guidance on healthcare legislation, policy and practice and support the development of our wonderful nurses, ensuring that the highest standard of person-centred clinical care is delivered to the residents across all of our services.
This period has been challenging for all in the health and social care sector. However, Leonard Cheshire is proud that through the excellent clinical control measures in place, and the quality of our staff, including over 300 nurses, we have ensured the safety of the 2300 people with physical and learning disabilities in our care. Our Covid-19 infection rate has been well controlled, despite the wider effects of the pandemic in the UK, and compared with February to June 2019, the mortality rate at our services over recent months has not increased. Our nursing colleagues have been instrumental in this, along with their colleagues in each of our residential settings. We are looking for you to join us to build on that achievement by ensuring we continue to provide the highest levels of clinical oversight and best practice across our care homes in the region you will cover, thus ensuring the best possible care for our residents.
You will support the clinical supervision of our nurses, and of our nurse managers working within care home with nursing settings. You will also assist and support our nurses with their revalidation process, providing support, education and mentorship to them and to other clinical colleagues including care staff, students and newly qualified nurses.
You will provide clinical oversight and health and wellbeing guidance through assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating individual person-centred plans of care across all our service types. You will also provide evidence-based training, competency assessment and guidance to services requiring additional clinical input and support.
You will act as the regional clinical lead for sharing best practice and guidance to ensure excellent clinical governance and you will maintain and develop your awareness of national, professional and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of our nursing services.
You will have current registration with the NMC and have a nursing degree or equivalent. You will have an in-depth knowledge of current health and social care legislation and experience of service inspection, audit and action planning and of delivering service improvement and regulatory compliance. You will have experience of nursing in community or social care environments and of working with people with disabilities.
You will be able to work under your own initiative and be able to communicate effectively with all the people you would be in contact with in this role.
You will be able to work flexible hours and have a willingness to travel and stay away from home on a regular basis.
