Job Description

As Clinical Research Nurse you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate expert research nursing care and provide support to patients attending the HCA facility who have been or have the potential to be recruited onto a clinical trial program. The Research Nurse will play a key role in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards the well-being of the patients and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in conjunction with the other members of the team.

You will facilitate and aid in the recruitment of patients to ensure high quality early phase clinical studies and trials. This will require the nurse to work flexibly across the disciplines to ensure the successful working of the clinical research facility. They will also act as a patient advocate providing support and assistance as required and assist in the co-ordination and management of a portfolio of translational clinical research.

Duties & Responsibilities
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate expert research nursing care, providing specialist advice and support to patients attending the Drug Development Unit (DDU), actively seeking evidence-based practice which will improve the quality of care and patient experience of clinical trial patients
Responsible for the co-ordination of on trial care, and follow up of patients within study requirements. The role will involve working closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams
Assist in clinical trials including venepuncture and cannulation of patients when necessary ensuring that they are carried out within HCA Healthcare UK policies, procedures and guidelines
Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of care to the patient
Evaluate patient eligibility for clinical trials/studies entry, co-ordinating pre-study tests, obtaining results and arranging appropriate appointments according to the research protocol. Act as a resource and support to patients and their relatives, explaining practical aspects of the trial or study, assisting and supporting local nursing teams
Ensure the safe administration of trial drugs, have in-depth knowledge of the legal requirements of a clinical trial Sponsor regarding pharmacovigilance and the pharmacovigilance policy. Report any adverse events and reactions in accordance with local policy and the trial protocol

Skills and Experience
BSc Nursing
NMC Registration
Post registration experience in research and oncology trials
Relevant specialist course (or equivalent) in oncology/haematology nursing
Recognised chemotherapy course is preferred
