An exciting opportunity open to Registered General Nurses (RGN), Registered Nurse – Learning Disabilities (RNLD), Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Paramedics to support the effective and reliable delivery of Personal Independent Payment (PIP) by using their medical and performance management expertise to implement improvements. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provides services and support to over 18 million people totalling £264 billion.

Clinical Advisory Officers play an important role in undertaking regular reviews of assessments delivered by 3rd party suppliers and work to develop and embed robust quality performance measures helping the department develop and maintain is policies by providing sound medical advice within the PIP delivery team.

Key Responsibilities:     

The Clinical Advisory Officer – Clinical Governance Lead will work with the wider PIP team and others to support the effective and reliable delivery of the PIP policy intent across the whole end-to-end process. This will require the successful candidate to develop a deep understanding of the PIP policy intent and the PIP service delivery model and approach, with the expectation that they bring their medical and performance management expertise to bear to identify and implement improvements across the end-to-end journey. The successful candidate will be expected to have a highly flexible/ adaptive approach, able to work in a range of spheres, from supporting and improving administration, to observing functional assessments and potentially through to delivery of training and continuous improvement activity.


Recognised Clinical Degree, eg. Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy.

Full, unconditional registration with a professional licensing body, for example, the General Medical Council (GMC), Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a license to practice.
