The 25-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

Familiar with changing trends in health and social care, you should be conversant with current professional issues in relation to nursing. As you review processes and practices you will promote a culture of research and evidence-based practice to enhance person-centred care, acting as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through the effective utilisation and integration of evidence. It should be a culture of continuous quality improvement through the use of audit, patient/client feedback and reflection on practice. A major focus will be the training, support, education and upskilling of staff. You will also undertake emergency triage, with emergency services through clinical care in the ambulance including advanced resuscitation skills.

You must ensure that appropriate systems are developed and operational and that risk management arrangements are in place, maintaining effective record management. With effective admission and discharge planning and management of duty rotas, annual leave and study leave, you will ensure supervision and mentorship is embedded and contribute to effective budget and stock management.

A Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register (or equivalent), you must hold a Nursing Diploma or Degree and substantial recent post-registration experience within an Acute General Hospital setting including staff management responsibility. You should also have experience in an either AAU/AMU (acute medical setting), A&E or ICU/HDU with up-to-date ALS or willing to undertake ALS training.
