A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,000, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK, poised for transformation with the imminent construction of an airport. The 42-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

Mental Health services on island are managed by GPs with 24/7/365 distance support from a Consultant Psychiatrist based in South Africa that includes a monthly telephone conference.

You will manage patients in the community, residential care and during hospital admissions and communicate with relatives and significant others, with the support and supervision of the medical officer in charge of psychiatric care. You must offer enhanced nursing practice such as CBT and administering medications. On a rotating shift basis you will participate in 24-hour on-call duties and respond to call out via ambulance. You will also supervise learners and other care providers, mentoring student nurses and training and mentoring staff in clinical areas and classrooms.

You will develop and implement a mental health promotion and prevention programme, including public talks, suicide prevention and self-help groups, also running anxiety management and depression courses. Facilitating and leading the Child Adolescent Mental Health Services meeting, you will also offer a mental health consultation and assessment service to other sectors including Education, Social Services, Learning Disability and the Prison Service, working closely with other professionals. Advising on child protection issues, you will give evidence, including forensics, in court.

You must be a UK Registered Level 1 Mental Health Nurse or equivalent with substantial post-registration experience, including community psychiatric care and a CBT background. You must also have experience with Children and Adolescents
