Role Purpose

  • To provide leadership and management to the fertility services team to enable the unit to deliver patient focused treatment cycles.

Key Outputs

  • Provide leadership to fertility unit staff in order to maintain a high quality service
  • Manage the fertility unit budget within allocation given ensuring objectives are identified and achieved
  • Co-ordination of all aspects of treatment cycles
  • Ensure requirements as laid down by the HFEA are met in respect of all licensed treatments
  • Management of all duties undertaken by nursing, clinical, administrative and other support staff working in the unit
  • Providing advice and support to the unit team
  • Responsibility for maintaining high laboratory operating standards

  • Working with the marketing department to promote the fertility services unit
  • Organising the unit on call rota
  • To act as the person responsible to the HFEA with responsibility as described under section 17 of the 1990 Act.
  • Develop and maintain a Quality Management Manual, policies and procedures, SOPs, checklists, guidelines, service and testing procedures and records
  • Planning and leading systematic quality audits.
  • Development of Quality Assurance strategies with the responsible people for the analysis of possible weaknesses within the QM system.
  • Assure effective corrective and preventative actions for the prevention and elimination of causes of non-conformances are in place.
  • To be familiar with and to participate in the maintenance of CQC requirements
  • To co-operate in maintaining the requirements of all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, Related Codes of practice and Safety instructions

Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications / Personal Attributes

  • In depth knowledge of the fertility field and of the HFEA licensing requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of fertility related management, clinical and scientific developments and treatment including ethical considerations
  • Good knowledge of computer systems and software, interpretation of the standard ISO 9001 : 2000, special training for internal audits, direct involvement in the development and installation of the QM system
  • Detailed knowledge of clinical governance and risk management strategies
  • Understand the principles of equal opportunities and diversity and evidence of putting these principles into practice
  • Understand the Freedom of Information and Data Protection issues
  • Complaints management

  • Counselling skills
  • Senior professional person, experienced in the fertility field (BSc or RGN)
  • Full registration with the relevant professional body
  • All relevant medical, biological, scientific or professional healthcare qualifications
  • Documented evidence of commitment to on-going personal and professional training and development
  • Previous experience in a senior position within a HFEA licensed fertility unit
