Break into prison healthcare! Are you an experienced Registered General Nurse looking for an exciting new challenge? HMP Bullingdon is a local Cat C prison for adult males and young offenders, close to the sites of Grendon and Springhill. It has a training function and regime for sex offenders and holds up to 1,114 prisoners, with a 21 bed inpatient unit.

It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care. We’ll utilise the wellbeing model to put patient care and safety at the heart of everything we do through assessing prisoners across 5 domains of; physical and mental wellbeing, substance misuse, relationships and resettlement. The patient and clinician complete a wellbeing wheel assessment to set goals and outcomes in partnership. The patient will complete the assessment and any needs identified will be met by our fully integrated service delivery team.

Qualifications • Registered General Nurse (Currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council) • Post basic qualification in a relevant speciality

About the Job As the Senior Staff Nurse you will work as part of a team of Primary Care Nurses within HMP Bullingdon Integrated Healthcare Services. Provide clinical leadership and management to the Registered Nurses. Establish inter-agency working where necessary to ensure good communication increases quality of care for patients. Ensure that own clinical practice is consistent with autonomous practice within the role. • Based on an individual approach, provide nursing triage and screening assessment. • Make a decision in relation to referral to more comprehensive assessment within a range of health and mental health services both within and outside HMP Pentonville. • Health advice • Nursing treatment or care. • Suture and plaster, or prepared for training. • Minor illness/injury care • Medicines management/advice • Referral to another health professional or service as required. • Set standards for care by implementing protocols and establishing health education activities. • Develop new and innovative tools to assist patients and those supporting their care to do so to their best effect. • Maintain accurate documentation of assessment, planning and treatment of patients. • Manage and provide clinical supervision to the Registered Nursing Team

Essential: • Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development activity to maintain up-to-date knowledge and on-going competence in all aspects of the role • Experience in management long term conditions e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes, CHD • Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team • Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of their own clinical practice Desirable: • Interpreting and implementing local and National policy agendas for health • Previous experience of managing and developing a nursing team This is a full time role working 37.5 hours a week. The salary is £28,000 - £35,000 per annum depending on experience. Please note that employment is subject to receipt of satisfactory references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.
