Break into prison healthcare with a new nursing job! HMP Bullingdon is a local Cat C prison for adult males and young people who have offended. It has a training function, an additional regime for sex offenders and holds up to 1,114 prisoners, with a 21 bed healthcare unit. Care UK began delivering the healthcare service at HMP Bullingdon on 1st April 2016 and we are looking for Staff Nurses to join our existing team.

About Care UK Care UK is the Health in Justice market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Having recently been awarded the contract to deliver NHS services at Bullingdon, we are very excited about the opportunities to develop our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. The circumstances that bring people to prison are also complex and varied, our wellbeing approach adopts the premise no single factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care. Care UK Benefits include 25 days annual leave + 8 public bank holidays, 2 x life assurance and a contributory pension scheme. There is also free onsite staff parking. We are also proud to support our employees with continued professional development opportunities and further education subject to service needs... One of our nurses has said "I can safely say that Care UK has been very supportive of any further education I wished to undertake, and seminars I wanted to attend. They have helped me to improve my career pathway as a prison nurse with BBV specialist interest."

About the role We’ll utilise the wellbeing model to put patient care and safety at the heart of everything we do through assessing prisoners across 5 domains of; physical and mental wellbeing, substance misuse, relationships and resettlement. The patient and clinician complete a wellbeing wheel assessment to set goals and outcomes in partnership. The patient will complete the assessment and any needs identified will be met by our fully integrated service delivery team. In this Staff Nurse job, the skills you will use may be similar to those you need working in Health promotion or A&E, alternatively you may be supporting people managing their mental health or substance misuse issues. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to. Across everything you do, you’ll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible.

As a Registered Nurse (Adult)/RGN with valid NMC registration, you’ll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and experience of carrying out clinical audits. We’d love to see evidence of your continued professional development, and a real passion for taking your skills even further. It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, and a flexible approach to changing priorities in a fast paced environment. This Staff Nurse job is a full-time vacancy, working 37.5 hour per week but we would also consider part-time applications.
