The Paediatric department has dramatically grown over the past few years and they now have 45 inpatient beds + 11 day case treatment areas. All areas and are equipped with the latest technology to provide high quality care to their paediatric patients. The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is a new addition to their clinical service portfolio and has been operational since November 2011. They are a spacious, modern 10 bed unit and are equipped with the latest technology to provide advanced respiratory and organ support all of which is medically supported by their team of Consultant Paediatric Intensivists 24/7. Their nursing ratio is 1:1 which reflects the acuity of the children who are admitted to their unit.
As part of the PICU team the successful candidate will have access to all of the hospitals fantastic benefits. The Sister / Charge nurse will promote and manage the delivery of high quality nursing care to children admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. They will also be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, and to develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care. As part of the Sister / Charge Nurse cohort, the successful candidate will have responsibility for a day-to-day management of the PICU and to manage a dedicated group of Junior Staff.
The Sister / Charge Nurse will act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.
Candidates are required to do a minimum of 8 shifts per month and part time, flexible working and bank positions are also available.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Responsibility and accountability for maintaining staff and clinical governance
-Ensuring that a specific group of policies are updated
-To set and maintain high standards of care
-To ensure continuous staff development and take a leading role setting behaviour and work standards
-To deal with complaints in a timely manner
-To deputise for the Children`s Critical Care Services Manager
Skills & Experience:
-RSCN/RCN registered on Part 8 or 15 of the NMC register
-Paediatric Intensive Care Course (ENB 415 or equivalent)
-BSc or working towards
-ENB 998 or Mentorship Preparation for Healthcare Professionals
-Experience at senior level in PICU
-Experience of Leadership and Management
-Awareness of child protection issues, Advanced Paeds Life Support, IV competent
