The Neuropsychiatry Service offers care, treatment and rehabilitation for young people, adults and older adults with challenging behaviour and complex needs. The Neuropsychiatry Service is recognised for being at the forefront of innovative service developments, for its excellence in service delivery and rehabilitation practice and for its ability to manage and reduce aggressive behaviour. The service consists of three unique care pathways; Acquired Brain Injury, Huntington`s Disease and a Specialist Dementia.
The service provides expertise in management of service users within a diverse age range, with challenging behaviours which include verbal and physical aggression, sexual disinhibition and self-harm, through the provision of high quality specialist care, research based treatment and rehabilitation, including psychosocial treatment programmes based particularly on a neurobehavioural framework. Service users may also have complex physical healthcare needs and need support in meeting their needs.
The wards provide a structured environment using a Person-Centred approach, creating environments that develop positive, caring and therapeutic relationships between clinicians and service users. Our therapeutic programmes are designed to create a positive reinforcing environment, where individuals experience success through achievable goals and high quality of life experience.
