Further information

If you’re registered with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council), have a minimum 2 years post-registration experience and you’re 49 or younger, then you could enjoy a unique opportunity to do something different with your spare time.

We’re looking for enthusiastic registered nurses to work in acute hospital settings (medical or surgical wards, MAU, SAU, Burns & plastics, orthopedics, neurology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, infection prevention). If you have a specialist post registration qualification (min. 60 credits at Level 6) relevant to specialty you may be eligible for additional pay.

With an Army career running alongside your civilian career, you have the potential to make a real difference. Not only to troops on military operations, but also to the lives of the local population wherever there is a requirement. If you’d like to be part of a team capable of delivering nursing care to the highest standards and at the forefront of medical advances in your area of expertise then the Army Reserve is for you.

Reserve Nursing in the British Army is like no other role.  It’s a demanding, but hugely rewarding, role, and provides the scope to develop and enhance both your professional nursing and personal skills through varied training opportunities and courses available (subject to selection), as well as the chance to take on different role opportunities that are available once trained within your Unit. There are also opportunities to participate in adventurous training activities in addition to military and professional training.

You will be expected to commit a minimum of either 19 or 27 days a year. This is dependent on the unit you join which, in turn, is determined by your civilian role). Of course, you can do more and you’ll be paid for the time you give to the Army Reserve according to rank you hold and at the end of the training year. You’ll also be eligible to receive an incremental tax-free bounty once certain criteria have been met. Other expenses, including travel, accommodation and meals, are also usually covered while you’re working with the Army Reserve.
