The role will be working within a vibrant, 24 bedded Surgical ward covering Colorecta/ Gynae/ Urology/ Transplant/ Hepato biliary and step down HDU. The department has a strong team of experienced staff, with nurse patient ratios of 1:4 on days and 1:5 on nights.

Working alongside a like-minded multidisciplinary team, this is a clinical role within management, and is instrumental in delivering tailored care to patients with complex conditions. The post will involve all standard clinical duties, leading from the front, as well as management and leadership to all staff.
Hours: Full time, 13 shifts per month on Internal Rotation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Manage the clinical area on a day-to-day basis and plan ahead, in line with budgets
-Performance management of departmental staff, including reviews and appraisals
-Ensure all nurses assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
-Recognise any clinical problems/medical emergencies and take prompt and appropriate action
-Direct liaison with Consultants and other departments
-Assess, plan and deliver care for patients from admission to discharge - taking receipt of patients from Intensive Care and HDU, monitoring individual complex conditions
-Assist staff with the learning and development, to support best practice and maintain clinical competence in specialist area
-Investigation of incidents and complaints
-Develop and promote clinical based practice through quality initiatives and nurse led forums
Skills & Experience:
-RN, NMC registered with PIN
-Strong previous recent Surgical Ward experience and knowledge
-Previous Ward Sister/Charge Nurse experience with staff management
-Skilled in any of the following areas: management of TPN, Stoma's,Liver/Renal transplant, HD patients, Cannulation and Phlebotomy
-Experienced in a minimum of three of the following areas: Colorectal, Urology, Gynae, Hepato biliary, Transplant or Step down HDU
-Relevent postgraduate clinical course would be desirable.
-Confident communicator with high levels of written and spoken English
-Confident working knowledge of IT, e.g. MS Office suite
