Over the last 5 years there has been significant investment into the hospitals facilities to modernise it, this has created a space that is conducive to a calm and restful atmosphere for both the recovering patient and staff that work there.

The Oncology unit consists of 20 beds with a mix of medical and oncology patients, typically receiving medical emergency admissions from their dedicated Urgent Care Centre. We also undertake chemotherapy administration and palliative care.

Job Description:
The Staff Nurse within the Oncology team main responsibility will be to assess, plan, deliver and implement a high standard of nursing care, ensuring that the individual needs of the patient are responded to. The position will require effectively working within the team, supervising junior staff and deputising for senior staff when necessary, as well as independently.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Provide the highest standards of quality holistic nursing care using evidence based practice.
-Demonstrate good understanding of medical, haematology and oncology nursing.
-Demonstrate compassion and empathy at all time.
-Work closely with the multidisciplinary team in order to provide the best possible experience for our patients.
-Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to meet the patient and their family`s needs
-Early recognition of clinical problems and report or take appropriate action
-Maintain accurate records
-Decontaminate equipment, ensuring it is in good working order

Skills & Experience:
-NMC Registered Nurse
-Contemporaneous experience within a Cancer specialty with a minimum of 1 years post registration experience
-Evidence of continuing professional development linked to demonstrable competencies
-Be prepared to achieve a mentorship qualification
-Be committed to working towards a specialist qualification
-Skilled in Phlebotomy / Cannulation / Care of CVADs/ IV administration
-Patient assessment skills
