Role Purpose:

To implement a strategy for Nursing at the Clementine Churchill Hospital and provide a continuing managerial responsibility for the Nursing Services throughout a 24 hour period
To co-ordinate and maintain the quality service within the hospital
Deputise for the Executive Director where required

Core Responsibilities:

The provision of a high quality nursing service, based on the requirements of our customers
Team Leadership including:

The development and implementation of a strategy for the recruitment and retention of staff
The development and implementation of a strategy for appraisal and development of staff

Maintenance of professional nursing standards in keeping with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
Budgeting for capital purchases
Formulates, monitors and carries out Budgets for responsible areas
Development of business planning initiatives
Act as a recognised resource on clinical issues
Development of systems to ensure that care is delivered on a total patient care basis, in a Named Nurse system, which proves continuity of care by a minimum number of Team Leaders
Participation in the management of an on-call rota for the hospital
Develop and maintain an excellent communication strategy to ensure that all hospital staff, and medical staff are aware of operational procedures and hospital developments

Key Accountabilities:

Monitor, coach and develop a team of direct reports
Maximise patient satisfaction in the hospital
Manage the provision of a high quality, customer-orientated nursing service
Coordinate a satisfactory Quality Improvement Programme at the Clementine Churchill Hospital
Supervise Clinical Audits
Comply with obligations in respect to Health & Safety at Work legislation, fire drills, and procedures, and always acts in a manner to promote a healthy and safe environment

Key Performance Indicators:

Maintenance of Quality Service, indicated by audit outcomes
Supervision of a team who together perform at a high standard
Maintenance of financial targets through monthly reviews.
Customer satisfaction as demonstrated through customer feedback
Implementation of the Clinical Strategy  6 Cs

Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications:

RGN
Management Qualification
ENB 998* Relevant ENB qualification
Knowledge of NMC Codes and guidelines and their implications for practice
Knowledge of the Care Standards Act and Healthcare Commission Requirements
Knowledge of Quality Assurance tools
Knowledge of Financial Control
Knowledge of Human Resource issues, including interviewing, appraising and counselling tools
General clinical experience in an acute setting
HDU experience (preferred)
OPD experience (preferred)
Infection Control experience (preferred)
