Senior Staff Nurse - General Paediatrics and Neurological rehabilitation

The Paediatric department has been consistently growing over the past few years, almost doubling since 2008. The Neurological Rehabilitation Unit currently comprises of 9 beds of which approximately 50% of patients require 1:1 care 24 hours per day. The ward has grown from being just 5 beds 18 months ago. The ratios on the rest of the ward are 4:1 Patients: Nurses during the day and 3:1 overnight.

The Senior Staff Nurse will be responsible and accountable without direct supervision for the assessment of required care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of care for children on the Neurological-Rehabilitation ward. The Senior Staff Nurse will undertake delegated responsibility for the department in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse. The successful candidate will promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence based practice.
Candidates are required to do a minimum of 8 shifts per month and part time, flexible working and bank positions are also available.
Duties and Responsibilities
To act as a clinical role model and leader for all members of staff
To ensure that each child is assessed and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated in negotiation with the patient`s family, and that this is accurately documented
To be competent in the administration of medication, including intravenous routes
To ensure the provision of appropriate supervision and support to members of the team
To provide a challenging supportive environment for education within the unit
To participate in staff performance reviews and staff developments
Skills and Experience
NMC Registered with a valid RN1/RNA and/or RN8/RNC (or equivalent)
Basic/Intermediate Paediatric Life Support
Assessing and mentoring qualification and teaching and mentoring experience
Extensive knowledge and experience as a Children`s Nurse working within a Neurological-Rehabilitation Nursing environment
IV and gastronomy competent
Understanding of Safeguarding issues
