The Intensive Care Unit was opened in 2011 and contains 9 beds made up of 4 open bays and 5 single siderooms. It cares for both level 2 and 3 patients and the typical case mix includes elective colorectal and HBP, complex urology, spinal surgery and will also accommodate unplanned and medical admissions. Modern care delivery equipment is present throughout the unit including the latest generation of ventilators, patient monitors, cardiac output monitoring, renal replacement devices and near patient testing facilities. Job Description: The Senior Staff Nurse will need to undertake shift leadership duties, which iincludes supervising the care delivery of a group of patients, managing unplanned admissions, ensuring correct staffing levels and skill mix, liaising with medical staff and other key healthcare professionals. The Shift pattern would be internal rotation, 12.5hr shifts. Duties and Responsibilities: To demonstrate good clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions Prioritising workloads and directing staff accordingly Regularly deputise for Sister, providing management and leadership in her absence Assess, plan and deliver care, based on individual patient and family needs Evaluate care of the team and ensure standards are met Support and act as role model for junior staff, promoting a learning environment To maintain accurate records of patient care Responsible for the control storage and administration of drugs Skills & Experience: -RN - NMC Registered -Recognized post graduate critical care course -ALS (Must be willing to undertake if does not currently hold this certificate) -Mentorship & Preceptorship -Skilled in Invasive and non invasive ventilation, -Renal replacement therapy -Cardiac output monitoring -Vasopressors and inotropes About the Individual: The successful candidate will need to demonstrate that they are a team player and have a calm approach to problem solving. Being highly organized and an effective communicator will be key to the success of this role.
