Main Purpose of the Job
Together with the Nursing Unit Manager the post holder will be expected to develop and maintain a high standard of nursing care to residents of the nursing unit. The post holder will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and the planning, implementation and evaluation of care for residents. He/she will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision while ensuring that a high quality of care is maintained at all times.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
*With the Nursing Unit Manager, to be responsible for the day to day management of all aspects of the delivery of nursing care to residents.
*To supervise any grades of junior staff as agreed with the Nursing Unit Manager.
*To participate in unit staff meetings as necessary
*To provide written and verbal reports of meetings and reviews as necessary.
*To liaise appropriately and effectively with other professionals.
*To ensure that confidentiality is respected at all times.
*To ensure the correct and safe administration of and storage of medication.
*To ensure that Health and Safety procedures are adhered to at all times.
*To follow all appropriate management procedures that relates to the care of residents for example those that concern administration of resident's money.
*To provide care that is appropriate to the needs of individual residents by ensuring accurate assessment, planning, intervention and review of all care delivered.
*To ensure that residents rights are respected and allow them to take appropriate risks, enable residents to make active choices about their lives and the care that they receive.
*To keep relatives and significant others informed of issues concerning a resident when necessary.
*To assist in the creation of an environment that is welcoming, stimulating and safe for residents and their visitors.
*To carry out reviews with residents about the care that they receive in accord with department policy.
*To participate in clinical supervision, reviewing clinical practice in the light of clinical findings and evidence and implementing practices as agreed with the Nursing Unit Manager.
*Participate in the monitoring of quality standards.
*Develop own skills as necessary; participate in the development of junior members of staff. Participate in any professional updating that may be required, meeting the needs of the NMC and the department in all respects.
*Participate in the review of dependency of residents on a regular basis.
*Ensure that practice is in accord with requirements and norms of the NMC at all times.
Education and Training
*Accept responsibility for own development and training needs; participate in the Performance Review system of development.
*Ensure that personal requirements of PREPP are met with.
