Staff Nurse -Surgical
Located in the heart of London`s esteemed medical district, this newly-refurbished hospital offers a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. Supported by world-class doctors from leading London teaching hospitals, the hospital has 120 beds, including a purpose-built intensive care unit, catering for Level 3 patients. The eight fully-equipped theatres include three laminar flow theatres for orthopaedic surgery, a hybrid theatre to enable complex vascular surgery, a robotic surgery suite along with some of the most advanced radiological diagnostic facilities in the country.
The 5th floor is a surgical floor - specialties include gastroenterology (surgical and medical), urology (surgical and medical) gynaecology, colorectal and hepatobiliary. The main purpose of this post is to assess, plan and deliver high standards of nursing care. Working within a team, the post holder will manage a caseload of 4 patients during the day and 6 during the night. The post holder will be taking charge of the ward once competency passed and confident to delegate and lead team. Undertaking extended roles once probation passed with the opportunity to develop with a Stoma course, urology course, professional development ie risk assessment, and lean six sigma.
Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate good clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions
Assess, plan and deliver care to meet patient and family needs
Undertake extended roles such as IV cannulation, phlebotomy
Contribute to research based care and other practice development initiative.
Deputise for senior staff in their absence, demonstrating leadership and management
Supervise and direct junior staff, promoting a learning environment
Fully document all aspects of patient care and maintain accurate records
Skills & Experience
Registered Adult Nurse -NMC
Urology, gynecology, colorectal, hepatobilliary and gastroenterology experience
Bladder irrigation, TPN, catheterization (male/female) venepuncture, experience
Knowledge of Cannulation, stoma care & NG tube placement
VAC dressing (ideal not requirement)

The successful candidate will be confident in knowledge with a good approach to patients, and have the skill to explain complex procedures to patients clearly. The ability to work with a multi disciplinary team and facilitate change will be key to the success of this role. The successful applicant will also have a passion for customer service and a desire to provide an exceptional patient experience.
