Staff Nurse - Surgical HCL are working with a prestigious hospital located in the heart of London`s esteemed medical district. The hospital offers a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. Supported by world-class doctors from leading London teaching hospitals, the hospital has 120 beds, including a purpose-built intensive care unit, catering for Level 3 patients. The eight fully-equipped theatres include three laminar flow theatres for orthopaedic surgery, a hybrid theatre to enable complex vascular surgery, a robotic surgery suite along with some of the most advanced radiological diagnostic facilities in the country. The department is a surgical floor which specialties include gastroenterology (surgical and medical), urology (surgical and medical) gynaecology, colorectal and hepatobiliary. Job Description The Staff Nurse within the surgical department will managing a caseload of 4 patients during the day and 6 during the night. The Staff Nurse will be taking charge of the ward once competency passed and confident to delegate and lead team and will be undertaking extended roles once their probation period has been passed, with the opportunity to develop with a Stoma course, urology course, professional development i.e. risk assessment, and lean six sigma. Duties and Responsibilities -To demonstrate good clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions -Assess, plan and deliver care to meet patient and family needs -Undertake extended roles such as IV cannulation, phlebotomy -Contribute to research based care and other practice development initiatives -To deputise for senior staff in their absence, demonstrating leadership and management -Supervise and direct junior staff, promoting a learning environment -Fully document all aspects of patient care and maintain accurate records Skills & Experience -Registered Adult Nurse -NMC -Surgical experience -Urology, gynaecology, colorectal, hepatobilliary and gastroenterology experience -Bladder irrigation, TPN, catheterization (male/female) venepuncture, cannulation, stoma care, NG tube placement, VAC dressing (ideal not requirement) About the Individual The successful candidate will be confident in knowledge with a good approach to patients, and have the skill to explain complex procedures to patients clearly. The ability to work with a multi disciplinary team and facilitate change will be key to the success of this role.
