Senior Registered Nurse required for the Oncology Ward (Pinner Ward) Bishops Wood Hospital

The day to day job duties will include:

  • Providing care to patients
  • Symptom control
  • Palliation
  • Radiotherapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Pain control

Co-ordinate the ward in absence of the Ward Sister


  • 2-3 years Oncology experience
  • Chemotherapy qualification an advantage
  • Some training/experience in counselling an advantage

Shift Patterns

  • 1 in 3 weekends
  • Rotation for night working
  • Early or late shift patterns (7am to 3pm or 1pm to 9pm) and/or Long days 7am to 9pm. Can be flexible.



  • To demonstrate a consistently high standard of nursing care
  • To act as a role model for other members of staff
  • To manage, direct and evaluate clinical care for a defined group of patients
  • To contribute to the continuing development of professional nursing practice in the clinical environment
  • To act as a mentor to nurse learners and preceptor to junior members of the nursing staff

Key Outputs

Clinical responsibilities:

  • To provide care based on sound knowledge and current research findings
  • To accept responsibility and be professionally accountable for co-coordinating total nursing care for a defined group of patients.
  • Promote a patient centered style of clinical practice, maintaining accurate and legible records of patient care
  • Demonstrate a consistently high standard of nursing care, developing care standards and monitoring their effectiveness
  • Maintain a learning and supportive environment
  • Ensure the storage and administration of drugs is conducted with adherence to hospital policies
  • To abide by NMC Code of Conduct at all times and practice within the NMC Scope of Professional Practice, adhering to Company/Hospital policies and procedures

Professional development and educational role:

  • Attend all mandatory training requirements
  • Keep up to date with professional issues, promoting evidenced based care and embracing new ideas that influence nursing practice relating to area of practice
  • Participate in formal and informal review/appraisal of own performance
  • To define own learning and development needs and devise objectives for achieving goals with appraiser


  • To communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of NMC Professional Codes and an awareness of Hospital Policies
  • Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Articulate and knowledgeable about current health care issues
  • Evidence of competency in area of practice
  • Counselling Skills


  • Valid NMC Registration
  • Registered Nurse level 1
  • Evidence of professional development within scope of PREPP
  • ENB 998 or other relevant qualification
  • ENB 237 or N59


  • To have experience in an oncology/chemotherapy setting
  • Some training experience in counselling an advantage
