Our Acute Neurological Rehabilitation Unit has grown from a seven bedded unit to a 60 bed department and, with a number of new beds available from January 2014, we’re looking to grow the fantastic team we have to support this. The Acute Neurological Rehabilitation Unit is a key area of our hospital and one that goes beyond basic care of our patients. Job Description

The Senior Staff Nurse will be responsible for providing high quality nursing through assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating care for patients within the Neurological Rehabilitation Department. They will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic care package is provided in a professional and efficient manner and ensuring patients and their carers are comfortable and well informed on the care and management of their condition.

The role will require effective working within the team, supervising, coaching and developing junior staff and deputising for the Senior Nursing team when necessary, as well as being confident working independently. The successful candidate will promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence based practice.

This is a full time position working 37.5 hours on a rotational basis

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a clinical role model for all members of staff, demonstrating best practice at all times
  • Supervise and direct junior team members, deputizing for senior staff in their absence
  • Drive high standards of care, assisting with promoting development initiatives
  • Ensure each patient is assessed and their care is planned, implemented and evaluated in negotiation with the individual and their carer
  • Undertake extended roles such as IV Cannulation and phlebotomy
  • Provide patients and their families and/or carers with information and guidance for the care and management of their condition

Skills & Experience

  • RGN with valid NMC PIN
  • Mentorship & preceptorship experience
  • Significant post registration experience within a Neurological Rehabilitation setting
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Phlebotomy skills are desirable
