This is an exciting Trust wide role for Medway Hospital. The Macmillan Matron Chemotherapy Lead will be a key leader within Cancer Services and across the organisation. You will be working in a dedicated Macmillan Cancer Care Unit, recently awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Award with excellent results, comparable to the best cancer units nationally.
The purpose built Macmillan unit consists of a 19 bedded Haemato-oncology ward, a 12 chair chemotherapy day unit, a video conferencing seminar room, and a Macmillan information entre and a central garden. Medway hospital was named as one of the top ten most improved Trusts in 2012 in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey, and ranked in the top third of all hospitals in this years National Cancer Patient Experience Survey.
The post holder will work in collaboration with the Macmillan Head of Nursing and the Lead Cancer Clinician for Chemotherapy to promote, lead and coordinate the nursing contribution to the clinical chemotherapy services here at Medway hospital.
You will have an extensive background in cancer and haematology with a sound knowledge base of chemotherapy treatments. You will be an expert practitioner within the speciality, with the ability to manage complex clinical situations, providing guidance and training to nursing and medical staff throughout the Trust. Leadership and future planning for strategic and local service development of chemotherapy is integral to the role. You will act as an expert resource, providing specialist advice, information and support for patients, relatives, carers, health professionals and all multidisciplinary team members in relation to all aspects of chemotherapy.
