Community Nurse Specialist
£34,345 per annum
Full-time, 12 month fixed-term contract
Based in Cardiff, Wales
Prostate cancer kills 10,000 every year. Yet tests, treatments and funding for research lay way behind other common cancers. We believe men deserve better. Do you?
There are currently six Community Support Services in operation across the UK, located in Manchester, Birmingham, London, Newcastle, Glasgow and Cardiff, with a further three services planned. Each Service aims to dramatically improve support for men closer to where they live, through establishing close links with primary care services and practitioners.
Working closely with the Community Support Service Manager, you will design and deliver specialist clinical support and advice to men and their families, ensuring they have access to specialist information and clinically appropriate support in regard to prostate cancer and the PSA test. You will engage with primary care practitioners in your designated area, to extend the awareness and understanding of prostate cancer, and enable compliance with the prostate cancer risk management programme.
Other responsibilities involve working with existing community networks, to target a priority audience with men who are at higher risk of prostate cancer. This will include older men and African Caribbean men, as well as those whose life circumstances may mean that they are late in presenting themselves for diagnosis, or they have poor access to services.
You will be a Registered Nurse with NMC registration, have a strong team ethic and the ability to communicate effectively with men from a range of backgrounds and health levels. Work placement experience within primary and secondary care is essential, as is a background in running education and awareness sessions for both patients and public and health professionals. You will also have a sound understanding of prostate cancer pathology, current screening practices and evidence-based survivorship programmes.
We offer excellent training and development opportunities, as well as a competitive benefits package, including a contributory pension scheme, life assurance, childcare vouchers and season ticket loan.
