
Senior Staff Nurse - Ward Based - Oxford - £22,681 - £35,515
Job Purpose
As a registered practitioner, to deliver high quality clinical patient care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
To lead a team of clinical and support staff.
Requirements for Post
Educational
Required: Registered practitioner with the appropriate governing body.
Required: Qualifications applicable to the registration requirements.
Preferred: A qualification in teaching and assessment.
Desirable: A professional management qualification e.g. NVQ level 2 or 3
Preferred: Immediate Life Support (ILS)
Desirable: Advanced Life Support (ALS)
Previous Knowledge, Skills and / or Experience
Preferred: Approximately 2 years relevant experience as a qualified practitioner.
Key Accountabilities
To provide day to day supervision, including accountable clinical supervision, of junior nursing staff and students of the department, with responsibilities including all or most of the following:
Work scheduling / rotas
Involvement in the recruitment, induction, performance review, attendance management, disciplinary and grievance
matters
Competency assessment, training, development and the mentoring of staff
Ensure work is carried out efficiently and to agreed working practice and protocols
To review policies, procedures and protocols and make recommendations regarding their content and application within area of responsibility.
To support the department in the achievement of all clinical governance requirements and participate in audit reviews.
To undertake risk assessment and actively manage outcomes within the remit of their responsibilities.
To undertake delegated responsibility for senior members of staff during periods of absence.
To provide out of hours management of the hospital, with SMT on call for assistance/support
To work under the guidance of the Infection Prevention Co-ordinator and act as a role model for infection prevention within their own specific working environment.
After guidance and support, can deputise for Infection Prevention Coordinator during short periods of annual leave
The post holder will have completed the Principles of Infection Prevention course [or similar]
The post holder is given appropriate time to implement any specific projects as identified by IP co ordinator and/or
Matron
The post holder completes the mentorship and / or train the trainer courses whilst carrying out the role
