A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,000, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK, poised for transformation with the imminent construction of an airport.

The 42-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

You will offer enhanced nursing including on-call duties in a specialist area of practice such as Theatre, Anaesthetics, Radiography, Oncology, A&E or Cardiology. You must implement and maintain quality evidence-based nursing care using best practice guidance, through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care. With a strong commitment to team working and the development of junior colleagues you will supervise the unqualified staff, mentor the student nurses and teach junior staff, including classroom teaching. Overtime, shift work, unsocial hours and night duty will require a flexible attitude.

You will regularly take charge of hospital patient care in the absence of medical officers and senior nursing staff. You will also help with the development of policies, procedures and protocols and be encouraged to identify opportunities for improvement in care, together with insight into how these can be achieved.

Currently a UK Registered Nurse Degree Level 1 on the Live NMC Register, you should have full time experience in an Acute General Hospital within the last decade. A trained mentor with updated ALS, you must have clinical, technical, negotiating, planning, organisational and reporting skills, with good written and verbal communication. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to effectively communicate, negotiate and advise when dealing with and advocating for patients/clients, members of the public and colleagues.

We offer an extensive benefits package with 30 days leave pa and which may include a contributory pension plus generous income tax-free allowances for relocation, rent and utilities. An application form can be found at www.sthelenacareers.com where further information can also be found, or you may contact Kedell Worboys on 0203 170 8705 or email: shgukrep@sthelenagov.com. Applications by 8th October 2012 please. Interviews will be held in London.
