Description

The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest teaching Acute Trusts in the West Midlands with an annual income in excess of £350 million. The Trust was established on 1st April 1994 and provides a comprehensive range of services for residents in Wolverhampton, the wider Black Country, South Staffordshire, North Worcestershire and Shropshire. On 1st April 2011 the Trust integrated with Wolverhampton City PCT Community Services under the Department of Health Transforming Community Services agenda.

The largest teaching hospital in the Black Country, training doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals, our Trust has more than 700 beds including 30 intensive care beds and 14 neonatal intensive care cots and we employ around 7,000 staff. In 2010/11 our Trust treated more than 750,000 individual attendances, including Accident and Emergency.

Over the last five years the Trust has seen a significant expansion of its clinical service portfolio, in particular the specialist and tertiary services. Recent redevelopment of the site has seen a new renal unit, 3 new operating theatres (giving a total of 15, excluding cardiac), a diagnostic treatment centre, a new radiology department, a new purpose built heart and lung centre and 2 additional Linear Accelerators.

The Trust offers teaching to150 undergraduates from Birmingham University Medical School, making it one of the country’s largest teaching centres. The Trust also has a large Research and Development commitment with a number of innovations on the open market and active involvement in regional and national research networks
