Further information

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, the Dr Foster Trust and Foundation Trust of 2011, is one of the largest Foundation Trusts in the country and serves a large and diverse population of over 750,000 from 5 hospital sites and multiple specialist clinic bases.

The Trust motto is ‘putting patients first’ and everything we do is guided by our vision, mission and values.

The newly formed Urgent Care and Long Term Conditions Division have put in place the building blocks that have enabled us to successfully demonstrate continued improvement against A&E clinical standards. Promoting leading-edge practice, we’ve developed the technology to provide real-time data to support clinical decisions – turning information into action for improved patient care.

The culture is one of passion for patient care and the Division is proud to treat each and every patient as we would care for a member of our family.
You will be joining a forward-thinking, commercially viable business that has the resources and ambitions to exceed the expectations of commissioners and the people we serve.
But that’s just the beginning. With your clinical expertise, inspirational leadership skills and innovative ideas on board, we’ll continue to set new standards of excellence for the future of Emergency Care.
As a Nurse Consultant within the Emergency Departments, you will work as an autonomous practitioner and provide leadership and direction for the nursing staff.

Working collaboratively with the Emergency Medicine Consultants and wider Emergency Medicine teams, you will be passionate about safe, good quality patient care and be committed to delivering and implementing services that continue to exceed standards and expectations.

You will play a key role in taking forward new models of working and will be an expert in the field of emergency care, able to inspire, challenge and motivate our teams.
The Trust is in a stronger position than ever before to deliver exceptional healthcare to the people of East Kent. With a projected income of £483m (2011/12) and employing over 7000 staff providing first class healthcare services, it is a leading, progressive environment that offers genuine challenges for the most ambitious nursing professionals.

We would also welcome applications from nursing professionals who do not yet meet the full criteria of the Nurse Consultant post, as a development opportunity may be considered for the right candidate.

As a Majors Nurse Practitioner you will be undertaking comprehensive assessment of patients, make a clinical diagnosis, plan and implement the management strategies necessary for the safe discharge / referral of patients without supervision. You will be required to demonstrate leadership skills and assist the Matron with management issues such as, deployment of staff.

The emergency floor department is forward looking and has recently put into place a number of new initiatives, including developing and running new training courses for nursing staff providing career development opportunities. The department is committed to training and developing staff.

If you have been operating as an Emergency Department Practitioner and have advanced specialist knowledge and skills in Majors Emergency Care, we would be delighted to hear from you.
For an informal discussion about these opportunities, please contact Karina Greenan, Divisional Head of Nursing, via Nancy Wharton (Secretary) on 01843 225544 ext 62063.
